Yesterday, we went to Pyrgos to see a caravan we need for the shelter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what we expected, but we had the chance to visit our friends who run two shelters—@groveofthevoiceless —and, for the first time, @filia_laundry ! ![]()

Daily tasks at the shelter often make us postpone things we want to do, like visiting friends. Our first stop was Filia Laundry, a self-organized laundry for travelers and food truck where all profits go to support the strays of the Kakovatos area! They produce their own olive oil, homemade olives, cakes, and many other great products, and the place operates mostly on a free-donation basis. It’s also fully vegan, and we had an amazing lunch before exploring.![]()

Filia Laundry has been active for four years, and we’re so happy to see places like this thriving—run by incredible people and dedicated to helping animals! Please take a moment to check what they do and help in any way you can!![]()

Afterwards, we visited the Grove of the Voiceless after one year! The last time we were there, we arrived with a pig family we had rescued—Ellie and her four babies—from a horrible place. ![]()

The babies were so tiny when we rescued them, and it’s amazing to see how big they’ve grown! We couldn’t be happier about their lives, and we will always be grateful to @groveofthevoiceless for welcoming them with open arms—even without any prior experience with pigs. ![]()

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance to see Ellie again, as she passed away recently. She had lived in terrible conditions and was constantly falling sick. But in her last year, she was surrounded by love, given plenty of food and cuddles, and, most importantly, had a safe place for her babies. ![]()

Visiting these two places, seeing all they have achieved, and witnessing so many happy animals definitely gave us a boost. It’s so important to support and help each other. We can’t wait to go back again and stay longer. We promised ourselves that it won’t take us so long next time.
We are officially saying goodbye to winter, and we’re really happy we made it through at the shelter! Winter was definitely easier than summer, even though we spent half of it hugging heat carriers. But for now, spring is exactly what we need.![]()

We’re already starting to prepare for summer by creating cozy shaded spots, hoping this summer will be easier. We’ve collected a few tons of water to keep the plants and trees hydrated, and we hope to receive the final response for our building permit in April—which would mean access to water.![]()

This month, we will start building the wall for the pig enclosure (140m perimeter). We are also looking to buy a second caravan to accommodate more people. On April 10, we will be ready to welcome guests! If you’d like to join us, don’t hesitate to contact us for more information!![]()

Some of the tasks we need to complete include building pig houses inside the pig area, adding an extra wooden fence on the concrete wall, creating a cat playground, and separating two areas of the shelter to keep certain dogs apart, as they don’t get along.![]()

We will also be welcoming two dogs, Olie and Blackie, who are currently being cared for by our vet, so we need to prepare a space for them. Additionally, we need to cut down the last of the burnt trees and create a storage area for the wood. If we have enough help on-site, we will also be able to build a space for chickens and rabbits.![]()

Every day, the shelter becomes more beautiful and comfortable for both humans and non-humans. We hope to see you at our upcoming bazaar on March 16 to help cover our next vet expenses—or at the shelter in April!

We found this beautiful boy yesterday in the middle of the speedway, totally lost, scared and skinny. We fed him and slowly he entered the van by himself. We took him at the shelter and today we had the first vet visit. Unfortunately he is positive to heartworm (dirofilaria). He has many scars from dog bites, he is underweight and has difficulties in walking. He is very young, less than 2 years old and already been through a lot. ![]()

He will start the pills for heartworm and next month will get the first injection shot for the treatment. Only the injections will cost 350€ (he is 26 kilos) ![]()

Today we had to cover an amount of 244€ vet expenses including previous depths for Sting, Kiara, and pills for Garry. And we have more vet visits for other animals following! ![]()

Sting received his first injection today for heartworm treatment! We'll also start giving him CBD oil to help keep him calm, as the treatment is risky, and he needs to stay stress-free. Additionally, we've upgraded his food quality. ![]()
