All seven rescued rabbits from the wildfires are now sterilised, vaccinated, and parasite-free thanks to your generous donations! 🐇💚Last Sunday, we held our first bazaar of the season at Navarinou Park and we’re so happy to share that all proceeds will go toward upcoming veterinary expenses for Garry, Johnny andf Mortis. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us!Back at the shelter, our next big step is finishing the rabbits’ new space. The structure we ordered is already protected with extra rabbit fencing, but we still have some important improvements to make:installing a better dooradding a rain coversecuring the ground with soil and fencing to prevent escapesand building a cozy wooden house where the rabbits can sleep safely at night.It’s quite a lot of work, but we can’t wait to see the rabbits hopping, running, and playing freely in their new home!We’re also expecting visitors in early October to help with the project so if you’d like to join us, let us know!We’re planning our next solidarity event in October or beginning of November, and this time we really need some extra hands!If you can’t make it to the shelter to help with the rabbits, we’d love to team up with you in Athens! Right now, it’s just the two of us handling everything , running the shelter, travelling back and forth to Athens, putting up posters, loading and unloading, and cooking non-stop for four days. It’s a lot to manage and we know it could be so much better if we shared the work together. Having a steady group of people there to help us once a month would make a huge difference for us. A few days ago, we received a call about a dog that had wandered into someone’s property. The person told us the dog could barely walk and was covered in wounds. When we asked why he didn’t take the dog to the vet, he replied that he doesn’t care for strays and would put him back on the street if we didn’t come. What happened afterward, he said, was not his responsibility.The vet was about to close, so we asked him if he could keep the dog safely in his yard until morning & we would come to pick him up.When we arrived, we were shocked to find the dog in much worse condition than we had expected. His legs were full of infected wounds, his ears had been cut & he was underweight. The people admitted they had tried to drag him out to the street with a rope around his neck, attempting to make him walk by luring him with food into a pipe. Thankfully, their cruel attempt failed. When we found him, he had hidden himself away, too weak & scared to move and it took us a long time to get him into the van. He was so terrified that he peed on himself as we lifted himAt the vet, we immediately did the rapid test, which confirmed he was positive for leishmaniasis. The vet kept him for 2 days to clean him & his wounds, gave him 2 good baths and ran all the necessary blood tests.The blood results came back very good! The vet recommended starting a mild therapy for leishmaniasis, so we began treatment with Zylapour, Cilroton & antibiotics for his wounds. In a month, we will probably begin MilteforanWe brought him to the shelter and he is now enjoying a calm and safe space, though he still spends most of his time inside his shelter, recoveringHe has a big appetite, which is a very positive sign. Slowly, he is beginning to trust us, completely normal, given everything he has been through.! We hope he will continue to heal, learn to trust people again, and finally understand that there are humans who will love him and never let him suffer. Once he has fully recovered, we will begin the search for the perfect family he deserves!His current vet expenses and meds ( total 108€) are all covered thanks to your donations💚 ... At our shelter, we have taken in 7 rabbits and 2 dogs rescued from the recent wildfires in Patras. The rabbits are temporarily housed in crates because we don’t yet have a permanent space for them. They urgently need sterilization to prevent breeding, as well as health check-ups and parasite treatments. We have started building a safe space for the rabbits and have ordered a structure for an outdoor playground so they can live, play, and recover in comfort and safety. Our plan is also to transport all the rabbits to a rabbit specialist in Athens for sterilization, medical care, and proper treatment. Each rabbit will cost €100, and we also need to cover tolls and gas for transportation from Nafpaktos to Athens.This week, we are managing to transfer two females and one male to Athens, but sadly, we can’t yet afford to bring all of them. 🌼Open Call for Creators | Vegan Solidarity Bazaar at Navarinou Park in Exarchia 🌺We are organizing a Solidarity Bazaar at the self-managed Navarinou Park in Exarchia, Athens in September and we need your help!We invite creators of all kinds to contribute their work and stand with the animals in solidarity!Proceeds from the bazaar will go towards covering vet expenses, food and meds for the animals, building materials and other essential needs of the shelter. Participating artists and makers are welcome to keep the part of the sales that covers the costs of producing their creations and to enjoy vegan food and drinks! After the wildfires in Patras, friends from Patras, Athens, and Thessaloniki came to the shelter and thanks to them we were able to complete many important tasks! We started preparing the area for the rabbits, cleaned the space for the new dogs from rocks and grass and added fabric and reed screens to protect them from the sun.We’ve also purchased the outdoor space for the rabbits , fully covered thanks to your generous donations! 🐇💛 At the moment, it’s just the frame with chicken wire, which is not enough to keep the rabbits safe.Although we had experience caring for rabbits as pets, this is completely different. Now they will live mostly outdoors and need a much safer, more natural environment. We took the rescued boy to the vet today to check his leg because he is limping. X-rays of his hip and knee showed an old injury that has left him with a partial or complete hip rupture, along with some joint laxity.For now, surgery is not necessary, as long as he is able to bear weight on the leg.Our expenses for today:The veterinary expenses for Johnny (let’s call him that for now) for X-rays and microchipping, plus canned dog food, plus supplements for Gary’s kidneys is 135€. ENG/GRToday we are preparing a safe space for the dog we rescued from the burned areas, he will be arriving at the shelter tonight! Our bunnies are currently in a temporary enclosure that we reinforced with extra chicken wire to keep them safe from predators overnight. What they truly need, though, is a large, secure area that’s fully fenced ,from the top all the way to the ground.In the next few days, the bunnies will be transferred to Athens to be sterilized, vaccinated, and tested for diseases. The cost for sterilizations and vaccinations alone is around 1,100€. Thank you all for the support so far!!_______Σήμερα ετοιμάζουμε έναν ασφαλή χώρο για τον σκυλάκο που διασώσαμε από τις καμένες περιοχές, φτάνει στο καταφύγιο απόψε! 🐾Τα κουνελάκια μας βρίσκονται προσωρινά σε ένα χώρο που ενισχύσαμε με επιπλέον συρματόπλεγμα για να είναι προστατευμένα από αρπακτικά κατά τη διάρκεια της νύχτας. Αυτό που χρειάζονται όμως πραγματικά είναι ένας μεγάλος, ασφαλής χώρος, πλήρως περιφραγμένος, από πάνω μέχρι και το έδαφος.Τις επόμενες μέρες, τα κουνελάκια θα μεταφερθούν στην Αθήνα για να στειρωθούν, να εμβολιαστούν και να εξεταστούν για ασθένειες. Το κόστος μόνο για τις στειρώσεις και τους εμβολιασμούς ανέρχεται περίπου στα 1.100€.
